1. YOUR TIME IS NOW
“Your success and your happiness start with you. The more involved you become in the message of this book, the happier you will be to know that you do control your future. Perhaps for the first time you will recognize your own enormous potential.”
We each hold the ability to succeed or fail. You can have everything in life you want—but you need to go for it, you can’t give up, and you need to help other people get what they want.
Your goal can’t be your success alone—it needs to involve helping others find their success as well. When you are dishonest and steal from others, the one you are actually stealing from is yourself. You must let go of the excuses for failure. Ziglar reiterates this over and over again throughout the book
You must be honest with yourself—as well as with others—as to why you have failed in the past in order for those moments to become lessons and lead you to success.
Your time is NOW… But, you must want it. And you must own it.
2. SELF-IMAGE
“As individuals, we will consistently act according to the way we see ourselves.
…no one on the face of this earth can make you feel inferior without your permission.”
We live in a negative society and it becomes easy to see ourselves through the negative eyes of others. We’re constantly being told that people are bad in and of themselves, rather than that people sometimes do bad things. Sometimes we’re the ones delivering these types of judgments.
But here’s the thing: everyone comes at life with different experiences.
This does not mean that one is less or more than another, but only that their experiences have brought them (and you) to where you are today.
People who hold a negative self-image often sabotage their own success.
And they do it by creating self-fulfilling prophecies of failure.
Every area of life—both personal and professional—is affected by a poor self-image, and is enhanced by a healthy self-image.
If you suffer from a poor self-image, Ziglar lays out 15 steps to improve it.
