About the FlashNotes Book Summaries Podcast
How we got started | by Dean Bokhari, Founder of FlashNotes Book Summaries
I believe that most of the questions we have about business and life have already been answered by some of the foremost thought leaders of the past and present, and one of the things I realized about many of these thought leaders in business and personal development, was that they’d already researched and written down the answers for some of the hardest questions we can answer inside of books… When I made this somewhat obvious connection — and it actually clicked for me — I decided to begin reading a book week… Every week, I’d read another book to learn more about whatever subject I happen to be obsessing about at that time — If I was trying to develop my skills in the business world, I might pick up a book like The Art of The Start; if I wanted to learn about leadership, I might pickup a book like Leaders Eat Last (or back when I first began — a book like The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People); if I needed to brush up on my productivity habits, I’d read books like The ONE Thing by Gary Keller; if I wanted to develop my selling skills, I’d read something like Spin Selling by Neil Rackham; and if I wanted to learn more about building relationships and connecting with people, I’d read books like Never Eat Alone;
One of the things I did while reading these books, was take notes. Lots of notes.
And when my friends or family members had questions about certain things, I’d naturally recommend a book to them that they might find helpful… one of the problems I constantly ran into however, was that most of the time, the books would never get read, and they’d still have the same challenges and questions that they could’ve resolved if they’d only read a book or two about the subject in question…
And when I’d ask them why they didn’t read the book, the answer would almost always be either: “I don’t have time to read” or “I don’t like to read”.
… At which point, I’d ask “you want my notes?”
…. and the rest is history.
